A team led by a North Texas fire chief has been deployed across Texas for the past 14 days to respond to various disasters, including a tornado in San Antonio and deadly floods in the Hill Country.
Disaster Response Efforts
The team, part of Texas Task Force 2, is an elite urban search and rescue team that is called in when local resources are overwhelmed. Assistant Chief Gene Senter of the Richardson Fire Department led the team, which used their skills and equipment to respond to emergencies across the state.
The team’s efforts included responding to a vigorous rainstorm in the Hill Country, where they received many callouts and checks on people. They also coordinated teams and resources along 120 miles of the Rio Grande River and helped respond to Tropical Storm Bertha in Corpus Christi.
Senter said the team’s goal is to help people and see the job through, which is a responsibility that keeps them going. The team is now conducting secondary searches of flood-impacted areas to ensure that no one was missed.
