Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride made headlines earlier this offseason with criticism of the team’s fanbase. However, following a recent training camp practice, McBride attempted to walk back some of his earlier remarks.
McBride’s Initial Comments
In a June appearance on the podcast ‘Bussin’ with the Boys,’ McBride noted that many Arizona residents are transplants from other states, leading to a lack of loyal Cardinals fans. He expressed hope that the team’s success would help bring fans back to the fold.
McBride’s comments sparked backlash, and he has since revised his stance. ‘Yeah, I probably shouldn’t have said that,’ McBride said. ‘It came out wrong, and obviously the fanbase is great. We have a tremendous fanbase. Arizona’s been here, loyal fans to all the sports teams here, and we’re very lucky to have a lot of these guys, and we’re going to have a great season.’
A Changed Tune
McBride’s reversal may be attributed to the negative reaction his initial comments received. The 26-year-old tight end has been a key player for the Cardinals, signing a four-year, $76 million deal in 2025. He has exceeded 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last two seasons and is looking to build on that success.
