The Louisville Bourbon Inn has been named the No. 1 bed-and-breakfast in the United States by TripAdvisor for the second year in a row. The inn also rose in the global rankings, moving from No. 6 in the world in 2025 to No. 3 this year.
A Legacy of Hospitality
Located in a historic home built in 1884, the Louisville Bourbon Inn blends luxury hospitality with preserved Victorian character. The house was built by Russell Houston, a railroad executive and attorney who also served on the Supreme Court.
Owner Allen Mitchell said the recognition is especially meaningful because it is driven by guest reviews across TripAdvisor and other booking platforms. “It is merit-based, your guests leaving reviews,” he said. “They watch everything, all the reviews from TripAdvisor, Expedia, bookings, all those feed into TripAdvisor, and they rank you based on that.”
A Personal Touch
Mitchell and his business partner Jeffrey Ochjs pride themselves in providing their guests with the most amazing experience. Ochjs handles much of the behind-the-scenes communication, making an impression before guests even arrive. The service even has its own signature flair, with Mitchell saying, “White glove service is great, right? But for me, it’s a little basic. We have to have that sparkling glove.”
The property includes eight suites total, five in the main house and three in a carriage house, and it attracts visitors from around the world. Mitchell said guests have traveled from South Africa, Australia, and China. “We pride ourselves on making sure everyone feels welcome, and everyone feels like they’re royalty, because we all deserve that,” he said.
