St. Joseph Children’s Home, a Louisville-area nonprofit, is nearing completion of a new play and wellness center. The center, called the SJ@Play: Play and Wellness Complex, will feature a basketball court, pavilion, and playground equipment.
A New Dimension of Care
According to Suzy Hillebrand, the nonprofit’s Chief Advancement Officer, the new play area will add a new dimension to the care St. Joe provides. ‘When a child, or anybody, is in motion, they tend to be able to get more into their head,’ Hillebrand said. ‘That unconscious stream of thought, and they open up more.’
The current playground was described as ‘dismal’ and ‘grim’ by Hillebrand. The new play area is designed to provide a more therapeutic and fun environment for the children at St. Joe’s.
