As students return to classrooms across the ArkLaTex, Louisiana State Police are urging motorists, parents, and educators to work together to keep children safe during the school year.

School Zone Safety

Trooper Eddie Thomas of Louisiana State Police said school zones have gotten off to a strong start thanks to increased awareness and public cooperation. Thomas emphasized that school zones are hands-free zones and motorists should avoid using cell phones while traveling through them.

Drivers are reminded to slow down in active school zones, obey crossing guards, and put away distractions while driving. Additionally, motorists should stop for school buses whenever warning lights and stop signs are activated and remain alert for students walking to and from school.

Thomas also encouraged the public to adopt a “see something, say something” approach, reporting suspicious or criminal activity to school resource officers, local law enforcement, or Louisiana State Police.
