Los Angeles County officials announced that registration is now open for sixteen public‑housing waiting lists, giving families and seniors a chance to secure affordable units as vacancies arise. The deadline for online applications is 5 p.m. on September 16, and interested parties may sign up for one or more lists through the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) website.
Senior‑designated properties
Ten of the waiting lists are for properties designated for elderly households. An elderly household is defined as one where the head, co‑head, spouse or sole member is at least 62 years old, or where two or more persons 62 or older live together, including those with live‑in aides. The senior sites are:
- Carmelitos Senior – Long Beach
- Rosas/Herbert Senior – East Los Angeles
- Palm Senior – West Hollywood
- West Knoll Senior – West Hollywood
- Marina Manor Senior – Marina del Rey
- Foothill Villa Senior – La Crescenta
- Orchard Arms Senior – Valencia
- Francisquito Villa Senior – La Puente
- Whittier Manor Senior – Whittier
- South Bay Gardens Senior – South Los Angeles
General‑occupancy properties
The remaining six lists serve families and individuals of any age. Those sites are:
- Carmelitos Family – Long Beach
- Harbor Hills Family – Lomita
- East County Family – East Los Angeles
- Santa Monica Family – Santa Monica
- Quartz Hill Family – Quartz Hill
- South Scattered Sites – South Los Angeles
For the smaller sites, the waiting list will close once 1,000 applications are received or when the September 16 deadline passes, whichever occurs first. The county’s Section 8 waiting list remains closed at this time.
How applicants are selected
When a unit becomes available, LACDA will select registrants from each list based on the applicable preferences for that property. After preferences are applied, selection proceeds in order of the date and time of registration. Applicants may sign up for multiple lists, but if a household is offered a unit from one list and declines, the household will be removed from all other lists on which it was registered.
Eligibility and rules
Public‑housing residents pay no more than 30 percent of their adjusted monthly gross income toward rent. Smoking is prohibited both on the grounds and inside all LACDA housing units. The agency currently owns and operates 3,229 public and affordable units across 68 properties, serving more than 6,650 residents.
How to apply
Registration is available online at harp.lacda.org/ex/NewApp.aspx or by calling 626‑586‑1522. Additional details, including property addresses, bedroom sizes and amenities, can be found on the LACDA website at lacda.org.
