The 100-year-old Lompoc Theatre in Lompoc, California, has received a historic $6 million gift from Cheryl Goldberg, a technology executive and arts philanthropist. This donation will kick the theater’s restoration project into high gear, ensuring the show will go on at the beloved venue.
Restoration Plans
The theater, which first opened in 1927 and has been dormant for over 20 years, will undergo a significant transformation. The black box configuration will host music performances, seminars, and other intimate performances while the restoration continues on the rest of the theater. The developer, 19-6, who recently updated Santa Barbara’s Granada Theater, will create an elegant, 450-seat auditorium where large-scale productions can perform with state-of-the-art lights, sound, and projection.
The historic land use office, one of California’s oldest commercial buildings, will be moved to the front of the property and converted into a movie house. Directors of the theater and community leaders are excited about the prospect of the theater revitalizing the heart of Lompoc’s downtown and bringing the arts communities of north and south Santa Barbara county together in cutting-edge ways.
