Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell is still trying to find the right combination for the team’s offensive line. With 12 days of training camp and one preseason game under their belt, the Lions are working to solidify their lineup.
Assessing the Line
Coach Campbell got a good look at right tackle Blake Miller and center Seth McLaughlin during the team’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Miller, a first-round pick, has been praised by Campbell for his consistency and demeanor.
McLaughlin, a second-year offensive lineman, stepped in after starting center Cade Mays sustained a wrist injury. Campbell noted that McLaughlin’s niche is playing low and being quick, which allows him to be effective despite his smaller size.
Christian Mahogany, who started 11 games at left guard last season, is facing competition from veteran Ben Bartch. Campbell praised Mahogany’s physicality, but noted that he needs to work on his consistency in the pass game.
