Leander ISD students have shown improvement in their STAAR test scores, with the district outperforming the state in several subjects. The Texas Education Agency released the statewide and district-specific scores for Algebra, English, Biology, and U.S. History on June 10, and math, reading, and social studies on June 16.
Breaking Down the Scores
The TEA uses a four-tiered grading system to score STAAR test performance and determine if students need academic intervention to succeed in the next grade. Leander ISD’s scores indicate that the district’s students are performing well, with many meeting or exceeding grade level expectations.
Year-over-year, Leander ISD’s scores were the same or higher in every subject, with the exception of third, sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade math, third, fourth, and sixth-grade reading, and eighth-grade social studies.
Supporting Student Success
LISD officials have been working to support student success through various academic interventions, including before- or after-school tutoring, flex times built into instructional days, EOC prep sessions, and small group instruction. The district is also planning additional interventions for the summer, including an EOC re-tester prep course, an Algebra I prep academy for rising ninth graders, and asynchronous learning opportunities.
