War Costs and Strategy
Senators from both parties demanded clarity on the strategy and spending for the conflict. Hegseth noted the war has cost the U.S. $37.5 billion so far. Sen. Gary Peters, a Democrat from Michigan, criticized Hegseth, saying, ‘You, sir, are the failure, not the men and women who are on that front line. You don’t have a long-term plan to actually win this war.’
Republican Sen. John N. Kennedy of Louisiana asked about the ability to destroy a deep underground nuclear facility Iran is building near a similar site known as Natanz that the U.S. bombed last summer. Hegseth responded that many U.S. military capabilities are classified, but the U.S. military can reach any target on earth.
