Springfield, Mo., the birthplace of Route 66, is celebrating the highway’s 100th anniversary with new attractions and experiences. The city has developed a Route 66 Welcome Center, a Musical Road, and a Digital Pass to reward visitors for exploring the city.
New Attractions and Experiences
The Route 66 Welcome Center, located at 318 Park Central East, provides visitor information, maps, and trip-planning resources. The Musical Road, installed on St. Louis Street, plays the melody of ‘America the Beautiful’ for drivers traveling 30 mph. The Route 66 Digital Pass, developed in partnership with AAA, rewards visitors for discovering the city through a points-based game.
The city has also launched the Springfield 66: Centennial Sculpture Series, featuring 16 large-scale sculptures around the city. A free, self-guided mobile app links all 16 locations, allowing visitors to navigate an interactive map, scan QR codes for artist information, and check in via GPS to earn collectible sculpture pins.
A Digital Pass That Rewards Exploration
The Route 66 Digital Pass is available for download on visitors’ phones, and rewards them for checking in at participating locations. Visitors can earn points for visiting hotels, attractions, and other locations, and redeem them for Route 66-themed rewards.
The city’s efforts to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Route 66 are designed to provide visitors with a unique and memorable experience. By investing in new attractions and experiences, Springfield aims to give people more reasons to visit, explore, and stay longer in the city.
