The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is asking anglers to help shape the future of fishing at Lake DeSmet as lake trout numbers continue to increase. Sheridan Region Fisheries Supervisor Stephen Siddons stated that Lake DeSmet is stocked with a diverse selection of sport fish.

The lake trout population may be impacting other fisheries, including rainbow trout and kokanee. Rainbow trout have been present in the lake for 100 years, while kokanee were introduced in 2019. However, the kokanee numbers have declined in recent years.
