The crash occurred around 6:39 a.m. on U.S. 27, south of Cagan Crossings Boulevard, troopers said. A witness told troopers that the man was walking in the left turn lane before entering the northbound inside lane and lying down in the path of a 2015 Kia Forte that was traveling northbound on U.S. 27.
The undercarriage of the Kia struck the pedestrian as a result, the report states. The Haines City man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP. The 69-year-old Clermont man who was driving the Kia was not injured and remained at the scene, troopers said.
