A stretch of Preston Highway in Louisville has been renamed La Villa Lou, a new district that honors the city’s Hispanic community and encourages visitors to explore the area.
Community Celebration
Mayor Craig Greenberg joined community members and business owners to unveil the new district, which spans the Preston Highway corridor from south of Interstate 264 to the Outer Loop.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to recognize, celebrate, and elevate the contributions of Louisville’s Hispanic residents. The city has also launched the ‘La Villa Lou Passport Challenge,’ which encourages people to visit businesses throughout the corridor and support local entrepreneurs.
Business owners along the corridor are hopeful that the designation will create new opportunities for growth. ‘I hope this is just the beginning of many more opportunities to come for our community and for the city,’ said Margarita Coro, owner of Sweet Havana.
At Tacolandia, Manager Eduardo Madrid believes the initiative could help attract new customers while showcasing the area’s diversity. ‘It would really be amazing not just for Preston, but for Louisville as a whole,’ Madrid said.
At Qbanazo Supermarket, owner Galia Iglesias emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identity. ‘No matter where you go, you carry your roots with you. You can never forget your culture,’ Iglesias said through a translator.
