Kings Highway I-30 Overpass to Close

The Kings Highway bridge over I-30 in Nash, Texas, will be closed for 19 months due to major construction. The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) will be replacing the bridge and extending closures to the area.

Local Business Concerns

Some business owners in the area are worried that the construction will hurt their business and reduce revenue. Sam Shaib, the owner of Texas Best Smokehouse, expressed his concerns about the upcoming traffic disruptions.

“We’re not looking forward to it at all. It’s been a headache since it’s been announced, so we’ll see,” said Shaib. He added that business dropped about 70% when construction crews closed the exit to his other store off I-30 in New Boston.

TXDOT engineer Juan Gomez said that motorists should expect delays with the new traffic pattern in Nash. “We have signs out there instructing traffic where to go. So, we ask that we follow those and just be cautious when driving through our detours,” said Gomez.

The goal of the construction is to provide extra mobility for the area. The new bridge will be wider and taller to allow for more clearance for the interstate system, as well as providing additional capacity for Kings Highway.
