State Rep. Bill Owen, who represents northern and western Greene County in the Missouri House, has been selected to serve as the lower chamber’s next budget chair, assuming he is reelected to a fourth consecutive, and fifth overall term in the November general election.
Leadership Experience
Owen, a Republican, has spent 39 years in the banking industry and currently serves as a member of the House Budget Committee and two appropriations subcommittees. He is also the chairman of the Financial Institutions Committee.
Speaker-Elect Alex Riley, who also represents parts of Greene County, announced Owen as budget chair in a press release, citing Owen’s unique combination of real-world financial experience and legislative leadership.
Pending reelection, Owen will take the helm of the Budget Committee as the state’s general revenue surplus runs dry, making budget cuts likely. Owen stated, ‘Missourians expect their government to live within its means and focus on its most important responsibilities. I am honored by the opportunity to lead the House Budget Committee and look forward to working with my colleagues to craft a budget that reflects our conservative principles, protects taxpayers, and positions Missouri for continued success.’
