Key Dates Announced for Huntsville’s Upcoming Municipal Election

Huntsville is gearing up for its Municipal Election season, which begins on June 9 as candidate qualifying opens for City Council and Huntsville City Board of Education races in Districts 2, 3, and 4. This local election is a significant event for residents, offering them the opportunity to shape the future of their community.

Important Election Dates

The election cycle includes several key dates for voters and candidates alike. Candidate qualifying will close on June 23 at 5 p.m., marking the deadline for those wishing to run for office. Residents have until August 10 to register to vote, ensuring their participation in this important civic duty.

For those voting absentee, August 18 is the last day to mail an application for a regular absentee ballot. The final day to hand-deliver a regular absentee ballot is August 24 by 5 p.m., which is also the deadline to apply for an emergency absentee ballot.

The Municipal Election itself is scheduled for August 25. Should any races require a runoff, that election will take place on September 22.

Encouragement to Participate

City Clerk Shaundrika Edwards emphasized the importance of voting, stating, “Voting is a critical part of our democracy, and we encourage everyone to cast their ballot in the Municipal Election.” She also advised voters to verify their voting locations in advance to avoid confusion on election day.

Qualifying forms for candidates are available at the City Clerk’s office, located on the third floor of Huntsville City Hall at 305 Fountain Circle. For more information on the election process, residents are encouraged to visit the city’s official website or contact the City Clerk’s office directly.
