Heavy rain falling in Kerr County led to severe flooding at the Buckhorn Lake Resort, an RV park located near Interstate 10 and Goat Creek Road. The floodwaters suddenly swept through the resort, catching people off guard and carrying off cars, SUVs, and RVs.
Flood Damage
After daylight, the damage was unmistakable, with vehicles scattered across the property, some landing in a nearby ditch or on an elevated highway bridge. Becky Miller, who had arrived from Montana to start a new life in Texas, said she scrambled to get out of the weather’s way and drove to a motel in Junction to spend the night.
Miller and her family left behind another vehicle and their RV, and later returned to see whether they were spared by the storm. Their trailer is probably salvageable, but their SUV is missing, likely carried away by the floodwaters.
Mike Kadunc also had to search for his Jeep, which had been parked near his RV. He found the vehicle across the road and said he headed for drier ground when the waist-deep water rushed in.
The floodwaters also uprooted trees, knocked down fences, and caused streets to buckle inside the resort. According to a manager, no one was hurt in the flooding.
