Houghton Horns, a small business in Keller, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The family-run business, which specializes in brass instrument sales and service, has been a staple in the local music community for decades.
A New Location
In February 2025, Houghton Horns moved to a new, 6,000-square-foot location at 137 Hill St. in Keller. The former church and funeral home now offers more retail space and a performance area with a stage and a grand piano.
According to Kacie Wright, co-owner of Houghton Horns, the new space has created more in-person sales and will increase the company’s connection to the community. The city is sponsoring some concerts at the location, making it a meeting spot for the community.
A Commitment to Service
Houghton Horns’ commitment to service and the music community has been key to its success. The company’s staff, all of whom are professional musicians, offer in-depth knowledge of brass instruments and provide exceptional customer service.
Longtime customer John Morgan, a retired music educator, praised Houghton Horns for its helpfulness to young musicians and its asset to the community. He noted that the company’s willingness to let his son try out three different horns at home was unheard of and helped his son develop his musical skills.
Overcoming Challenges
Houghton Horns has survived several economic challenges, including the global pandemic, interest rate increases, and rising tariffs on imported instruments. The company has found creative ways to keep quality instruments accessible and affordable, including launching Zoom consultations and expanding its social media efforts.
Despite the challenges, Houghton Horns remains committed to its customers and the local music community. As Wright noted, the company’s secret is its in-depth knowledge of brass instruments, and its staff’s passion for music makes a big difference in the knowledge and expertise they offer.
