Indianola police responded just before 6 p.m. on Sunday to a vehicle‑pedestrian collision in the 400 block of West 18th Place. Bystanders were already performing CPR on the injured pedestrian when officers arrived and took over the life‑saving efforts.

Emergency crews requested a LifeFlight helicopter to transport the victim, but despite the rapid response and medical attention, the State Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced the juvenile pedestrian dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was also identified as a juvenile. Both youths’ identities are being withheld by police out of respect for their families and because of their ages.

The Iowa State Patrol has assumed command of the investigation, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
