A bald eagle has been rehabbed and released back into the wild thanks to a Kentucky State Trooper. In June, Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London received reports of a distressed juvenile eagle that was unable to fly. Trooper Trey Lovins went to Collin Lane in Corbin, where he found the eagle and was able to safely capture the young bird.
Lovins and the young eagle traveled to Somerset, to the Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge, Liberty Nature Center. There, the eagle, affectionately named Trooper thanks to Lovins’ courageous rescue, was able to receive specialized care and rehabilitation.
On July 31, Trooper was healthy enough to be released back into the wild. KSP Troopers, Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge staff, and a number of volunteers gathered at Laurel Lake near Holly Bay beach for Trooper’s release.
