June Dairy Month: Donate Blood and Support Wisconsin Dairy Farmers

In Juneau, Wisconsin, the Professional Dairy Producers (PDP) are celebrating June Dairy Month by encouraging the community to give back through a blood donation drive. This initiative not only honors the hard work of dairy farmers but also addresses a critical blood shortage anticipated by the American Red Cross.

Community Blood Drive Details

The blood drive is scheduled for Monday, June 22, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at PDP headquarters, located at 820 N. Main Street in Juneau. The event is organized in collaboration with the American Red Cross, which has reported a significant need for blood donations this summer.

Ellen Gorham, executive director of the Greater Triangle Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “Right now we are seeing a donor shortage, and we are anticipating that if people don’t sign up to donate now and in the weeks ahead, we will absolutely be in a blood shortage later this summer.”

How to Participate

Interested donors can register for a time slot on the American Red Cross website, ensuring they select the June 22 event hosted by PDP. Donors are encouraged to prepare by drinking plenty of water and eating a healthy meal before donating. Additional guidance on the donation process is available on the Red Cross website.

Celebrating Dairy Month

In celebration of June Dairy Month, PDP will provide donors with a selection of dairy treats, including grilled cheese sandwiches, yogurt, milk and cookies, and ice cream. Additionally, donors will receive a $15 gift card from the American Red Cross as a token of appreciation.

PDP, the largest dairy producer-led organization in the nation, focuses on enhancing producer professionalism and fostering stakeholder engagement. Their efforts aim to share ideas, solutions, and resources that support the success of dairy producers across the country.
