Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has expressed openness to co-owning the team with Mark Cuban, the former majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks. Jones stated that he has “all the respect in the world” for Cuban and values his experience in managing a successful sports franchise.
Potential Partnership
Cuban’s private equity firm, Harbinger, could potentially purchase a minority stake in the Cowboys. The NFL approved a measure two years ago allowing private equity firms to buy between 3% and 10% of a franchise. Jones’ comments come after his son, Stephen, mentioned that the family would consider selling a portion of the team to the right partner.
The Cowboys’ estimated valuation is $13 billion, the largest in North American professional sports. Cuban sold nearly 75% of the Mavericks in December 2023 for a $3.5 billion valuation and has also invested in the MLB’s Athletics.
