Jackson, WY — To mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Jackson Hole Fire/EMS is organizing a community‑wide hill‑climb event on Snow King Mountain this Friday. The gathering offers locals a chance to remember the emergency personnel who lost their lives that day and to continue the healing process.

Event details

The day begins with a ceremony at Town Square at 8:30 a.m., followed by a barbecue at the base of Snow King. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., participants will ascend a 1,500‑foot climb—equivalent to the 110 stories of the World Trade Center—while receiving free water and a commemorative T‑shirt. Each climber will wear an identification badge honoring a specific first responder who served on 9/11.

Honoring the fallen

According to Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, the attacks claimed the lives of 343 New York Fire Department firefighters, 37 Port Authority police officers, 23 New York Police Department officers and eight emergency‑medical‑services workers. Deputy Fire Chief Brian Coe said, “This gathering gives the Jackson Hole community a meaningful chance to reflect on the events of 9/11 and continue healing from the wounds left by that day.”

New elements for the 10th edition

This year’s climb includes audio recordings of FDNY radio communications from the day of the attacks, a new feature for the event’s tenth anniversary. Coe added, “The event continues to expand, offering our community a powerful way to honor the responders of 9/11 and the many lives that were lost or forever changed. We’ve pledged to Never Forget, and we are committed to upholding that promise.”
