Istanbul Street Vendor Gains Global Fame as Tourist Attraction

In a heartwarming story from Istanbul, Alper Temel, a street food vendor, has become an international sensation. Temel, who sells chestnuts and corn at his family’s stall in the historic Karaköy district, has been working alongside his brothers for seven years. Since 2024, when videos of his charming demeanor and good looks went viral, tourists from around the world have flocked to his stall, not just for the food but to meet and take photos with him.

From Local Vendor to Global Celebrity

Temel’s rise to fame began when social media users started sharing videos of him, leading to an influx of tourists eager to experience the local street food culture and meet the charismatic vendor. His popularity has grown so much that local tour guides now include his stall in their itineraries, and influencers have contributed to his fame by creating their own content about him.

Despite the attention, Temel remains grounded. He expresses gratitude for the support and sees his newfound fame as an opportunity to help his family. “Like any young person, I try to help and support my family in the best way I can,” he says. “This fame has helped speed that process up for me.”

Social Media Success and Future Aspirations

Since launching his own social media profiles in October 2025, Temel has amassed a significant following, with over 960,000 followers on Instagram and 695,000 on TikTok. His videos, which often feature him interacting with tourists and showcasing his products, have garnered over 11 million likes. Temel’s live sessions on TikTok, where he engages with fans and answers questions, have further cemented his status as a beloved figure.

Offers for modeling contracts, acting roles, and even marriage proposals have come his way, but Temel remains focused on his work and goals. He hopes to use his platform to highlight the beauty and diversity of Turkey, inviting visitors to experience the country’s rich culture and hospitality. “For us, those who come from abroad are not tourists — they are guests, and we do our best to welcome them,” he says.
