The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has condemned an attack by Iran on one of its oil vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The attack, which occurred on Saturday, was described as a missile attack by the UAE’s state news agency, WAM.
Details of the Attack
According to WAM, the vessel, which is linked to the UAE’s state oil company ADNOC, was targeted by a missile early on Saturday. The situation is reportedly under control, with no injuries reported. The UAE Foreign Ministry later condemned the attack, describing it as a “hostile Iranian attack” on an ADNOC vessel.
The attack is the latest in a series of disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for the global oil trade. About a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas passes through the strait, which is located between Oman and Iran.
Condemnation and Response
The UAE has called on Iran to halt the attacks and reopen the strait fully and unconditionally. The UAE Foreign Ministry also accused Iran’s Revolutionary Guards of “acts of piracy” by targeting commercial shipping and using the waterway as a tool of economic pressure.
ADNOC has been significantly affected by the attacks, with 15 of its vessels attacked by missiles and drones while transiting the strait since the start of the conflict. One crew member has been killed and 20 others injured in the attacks.
