A drone entered Bulgarian airspace from Romania and exploded near the village of Kardam, according to Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev. The incident occurred on Saturday and did not result in any casualties or infrastructure damage.
The drone exploded in a sunflower field near the border with Romania, about 1,000 meters from a compressor station of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline. The area of the explosion has been cordoned off, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact type of drone involved.
Radev stated that the security of strategic sites in the country and surveillance along the Bulgaria-Romania border would be increased. He also noted that the detection and identification of drones remain a challenge, and the Bulgarian army is awaiting the delivery of high-precision radars.
