Des Moines Water Works and local farmers in north-central Iowa are working together to improve water quality. This collaboration comes 10 years after a lawsuit was filed over nitrate-containing farm runoff. Water Quality Efforts
The event, which brought together over 150 attendees, was organized by the Lobe Rangers group. The group has been sharing their conservation practices on social media to preserve Iowa’s water and soil quality. The lawsuit, which was thrown out, initially pitted farmers and rural leaders against the water utility and more urban residents.
The shift in approach is a testament to the changed perspective of Des Moines Water Works. Kahler stated that the focus is now on working together to address water quality issues. The event was seen as a success, with attendees from all walks of life, including Republicans, Democrats, farmers, and independent folks.
