Investigation Reveals Allegations Against Fuyao and Other Chinese Firms

Fuyao Glass America, a prominent automotive glass manufacturer based in Moraine, Ohio, is under federal scrutiny following allegations of labor and trade violations. This investigation, conducted by the Dayton Daily News in collaboration with WHIO-TV, sheds light on the practices of Fuyao and other Chinese companies with local ties.

Public Funds and Job Creation

Fuyao received substantial tax breaks and incentives to revitalize the former GM plant in Moraine. However, the investigation revealed that Fuyao allegedly paid over $126 million to a network of companies under federal investigation, raising questions about their commitment to job creation promises made in exchange for taxpayer dollars.

Raids and Allegations

Six months prior to the raid on Fuyao, Sunsong North America, located across the street, was also raided by Homeland Security agents due to alleged trade violations. This has caught the attention of Congress, highlighting the broader implications of these investigations.

In March 2025, Wellmade Industries in Georgia was raided following a probe into improper pay and worker treatment. Connections between Wellmade and Dayton include a local resident owning property in Georgia and a staffing company linked to both Fuyao and Wellmade.

Economic Impact and Political Connections

David Rashid, a local business owner, has been vocal about the economic impact of these violations. He co-founded the Industry Alliance for Trade Enforcement NOW, which estimates that systemic trade law violations have led to significant economic losses, including 2.1 million lost U.S. manufacturing jobs.

Fuyao’s political connections are also noteworthy, with Chairman Cao Hui attending a state dinner with President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. This highlights the complex interplay between business interests and political influence.

Congressional Oversight

A federal appropriations bill signed by President Trump mandates a report from the U.S. Department of Justice on illegal labor practices by automotive glass producers tied to the Chinese Communist Party. This report, due soon, will provide further insights into the ongoing investigations.

This investigation underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in international business practices, particularly when taxpayer funds are involved.
