Ohio Gov. DeWine Signs Order to Combat Medicaid Fraud

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has taken a significant step to address potential Medicaid fraud by signing an executive order that mandates more frequent revalidation of certain Medicaid providers. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance oversight and accountability within the state’s Medicaid program.

The executive order, announced a week ago, aligns with DeWine’s ongoing directives to the Ohio Department of Medicaid. These directives include implementing new limitations on program aspects that have been criticized for insufficient oversight. The goal is to ensure that taxpayer dollars are used appropriately and that the program serves those in genuine need.

Voter ID Laws in Ohio

In another political development, Ohio Republican lawmakers are pushing to enshrine mandatory voter ID laws into the state constitution. Although voter ID is already required in Ohio, the proposed constitutional amendment would solidify this requirement, making it more challenging to alter in the future. The measure will be put to a vote if it receives approval from a supermajority in both the House and Senate, which are currently controlled by Republican supermajorities.

Local Crime and Safety

In Dayton, a man named Jeffrey Atkinson has pleaded guilty to charges related to a hit-and-run incident involving a 9-year-old girl. Atkinson admitted to endangering children, failing to stop after an accident, and operating a vehicle under the influence. His sentencing is scheduled for June 4.

Additionally, the Dayton Police Department is warning residents about an increase in EBT card fraud and skimming devices. These devices are used to steal card information, leading to unauthorized transactions. Police advise vigilance and offer tips to prevent such fraud.

Community and Heritage

The Paul Laurence Dunbar House, a significant historical site, has recently undergone restoration. The project, which included essential repairs and preservation efforts, received an Excellence in Preservation Award from Preservation Dayton Inc. This initiative highlights the community’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage.

As summer approaches, Kings Island’s Soak City water park is set to open, offering a refreshing escape for families. The park will operate daily, providing a variety of attractions to help beat the heat.
