The Indianapolis Urban League is inviting community members to a free resource fair on Saturday, Oct. 14, aimed at helping individuals overcome barriers to employment and housing. The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Urban League’s downtown office, 777 Indiana Ave.
What services will be available
Attendees can receive hands‑on assistance with three key issues:
- Driver’s license reinstatement – legal volunteers will guide eligible participants through the paperwork and court steps needed to regain a suspended or revoked license.
- Eviction record sealing – the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will explain how to have past eviction filings sealed, reducing obstacles to future rental applications.
- Criminal record expungement – Indiana Legal Services and the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic will help eligible individuals determine whether they qualify for expungement and assist with filing the necessary petitions.
All services are provided at no cost, and participants do not need to be represented by an attorney to receive help.
How to attend
Because space is limited, the Urban League requires advance registration. Interested residents should click the registration link on the Urban League’s website or contact the organization directly. Once registered, participants will receive a confirmation email with directions and a checklist of documents to bring, such as driver’s license records, eviction notices, and any court documents related to past convictions.
Why the fair matters
Restoring a driver’s license, sealing eviction records, and clearing criminal histories are proven pathways to stable employment and housing. According to the Urban League, thousands of Indianapolis residents face barriers that keep them from securing jobs that require a valid license or from renting safe, affordable homes. By offering consolidated legal assistance in one location, the fair reduces the time and expense typically associated with navigating multiple agencies.
“Our community thrives when families have the freedom to work, travel and live without the shadow of past mistakes,” said a spokesperson for the Indianapolis Urban League. “This fair is a concrete expression of our commitment to empower individuals and strengthen families across Indianapolis.”
Partner organizations
The event is a collaborative effort. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office brings prosecutorial insight into the sealing process, while the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic offers faith‑based counseling and legal support. Indiana Legal Services contributes its statewide expertise on expungement law, ensuring that participants receive accurate, up‑to‑date information.
Additional resources
For those unable to attend the fair, the partner organizations continue to provide one‑on‑one consultations by appointment. Contact information for each partner is available on the Urban League’s website.
