A single ticket sold in Illinois matched all six numbers in the August 12 Powerball drawing to win an estimated $1.04 billion jackpot, lottery officials said. The jackpot is the eighth largest in the game’s history and the largest so far this year, with an estimated cash value of $450.5 million.
Winning Numbers
The winning numbers were 4, 26, 66, 67, and 69, with a red Powerball of 9. The Power Play multiplier was 2. Lottery officials urged players to check their tickets, noting that four tickets worth $1 million were sold in Arizona, California, Florida, and North Carolina by matching five of the white ball numbers.
A fifth ticket matched all five white balls and included the Power Play option, winning a player in Massachusetts $2 million. In total, more than 3 million tickets won cash prizes in the drawing by matching at least one of the winning numbers.
Next Drawing
The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday night. The jackpot will reset to $20 million. Powerball drawings are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee, Florida. Each play costs $2, and jackpot winners can choose between a lump-sum cash payment or annual payments spread over 29 years.
