A 10-year-old boy from Hudson was flown to a local hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by two different vehicles while trying to cross State Road 52 on his bicycle.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened on June 12 just around 12:25 p.m. outside the Circle K gas station at 7611 SR-52 in Pasco County. Investigators say the child rode his bike out of the gas station property and attempted to cross the highway near Victory Drive.
As the boy tried to cross, he entered the path of a Kia Niro that was traveling westbound in the center lane. The driver of the Kia, a 45-year-old woman also from Hudson, struck the child. The impact of that initial collision pushed the young bicyclist into the highway’s inside lane.
Once in the inside lane, the boy was hit a second time by a westbound Ford F350 pickup truck. FHP officials identified the driver of the truck as a 35-year-old man from Riverview.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and airlifted the child to an area hospital to be treated for serious injuries. Authorities have not released the names of the child or the drivers involved.
