Houston Area News: EMS Calls, New Bookstore

The Cy-Fair Fire Department has reported a significant increase in emergency medical services (EMS) calls from assisted senior living facilities. Since 2020, the number of calls has almost doubled, according to Ahmad Abodeeb, district chief of EMS-clinical at the Cy-Fair Fire Department.

New Japanese Bookstore to Open in Rice Village

Kinokuniya Books, a bookstore specializing in Japanese literature and stationery, will open its second Houston-area location in Rice Village in the fall. The store will offer a wide variety of books, magazines, and stationery from Japan, including manga, graphic novels, art and design books, cookbooks, travel books, and children’s books.

Conroe ISD has reviewed the impact of its new cellphone policy, which was implemented during the 2025-26 school year. The policy has resulted in a significant number of cellphone-related discipline referrals across the district’s secondary campuses.

Houston Shock Volleyball has relocated to Spring Cypress Road in Tomball, providing easier access and shorter drive times for young athletes. The new facility features two full volleyball courts and is wheelchair accessible.
