President Donald Trump responded to a recent Iranian drone attack on a ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the consequences of the attack will be revealed in time.
Attack Details
The attack, which occurred on a Singaporean-flagged ship, was carried out by Iranian forces using at least four one-way attack drones. One of the drones successfully hit the upper deck of the cargo ship, but the ship was able to proceed on its way after the attack. The U.S. knocked down three other drones during the incident.
The attack comes two weeks after the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding, agreeing to enter a 60-day ceasefire. The president accused Iran of violating the ceasefire and stated that he was not happy with the country’s actions.
Possible Military Response
The president’s remarks on the attack have possibly opened the door to a military response. In the past, the U.S. has executed self-defensive strikes on radar and command and control sites often used to launch drones.
The International Maritime Organization has announced a pause on operations in the Strait of Hormuz following the attack. The strait has been a source of contention with Iran after it effectively closed the vital waterway following the U.S. and Israeli coordinated strikes that began on February 28.
