House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., was confronted Monday morning over high gas prices under the Biden administration when criticizing President Donald Trump over gas prices.
Jeffries remarked on gas prices while discussing Trump’s peace deal with Iran after months of war and hostilities on ‘Good Day New York.’ He stated that Trump’s actions led to ‘skyrocketing gas prices’ in an environment where the cost of living was already too high.

Co-host Rosanna Scotto reminded Jeffries that former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden also saw high gas prices during their terms. Scotto asked, ‘Gas prices were up under Obama too. And Biden, right?’ Jeffries attempted to answer, but Scotto pressed, ‘Didn’t we have gas prices over $5?’
Jeffries responded by mentioning the pandemic situation and its impact on gas prices. Scotto then moved on to discuss the New York Knicks’ NBA championship win with the New York congressman.
According to reports, gas prices reached their highest recorded national average at $5.02 per gallon under Biden in June 2022. At the time, members of the Democratic Party largely blamed the price surge on the aftermath of the COVID pandemic and the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, calling it ‘Putin’s price hike.’
