Habitat for Humanity opens applications for 25‑home Larch Commons development in Sisters

Sisters, Oregon – Habitat for Humanity announced today that applications are open for Larch Commons, a new cottage‑style housing development offering 25 homeownership opportunities in the heart of downtown Sisters. The project marks the organization’s inaugural workforce housing tier, designed to give local workers a path to stable homeownership as housing costs continue to rise in Central Oregon.

Mix of affordable and workforce homes

Larch Commons will provide 19 permanently affordable homes for households earning up to 80% of the Area Median Income and six workforce homes for families earning up to 120% of the Area Median Income. The homes range from one‑ to three‑bedroom layouts with one or two bathrooms, allowing a variety of family sizes to find a suitable fit.

Why workforce housing matters

President and Executive Director Peter Hoover highlighted the importance of the new tier, noting that the past 35 years have shown how affordable homeownership can strengthen families and foster a sense of belonging. “Larch Commons allows us to bring that opportunity to more of our neighbors,” Hoover said. By targeting workers who earn modest incomes, the development aims to keep essential employees—teachers, nurses, first‑responders, and local business staff—rooted in the community they serve.

Application details

Prospective buyers can review income limits, eligibility requirements, and the application process on the Sisters Habitat for Humanity website. Information is available in both English and Spanish to ensure broad accessibility. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and interested families are encouraged to submit their materials promptly, as the limited number of homes is expected to fill quickly.

Community impact

The addition of Larch Commons is expected to bolster the local economy by increasing homeownership rates and providing stable housing for the workforce that keeps Sisters thriving. Permanent affordability ensures that homes remain within reach for future generations, while the workforce tier addresses a growing gap for middle‑income families who often fall between traditional affordable housing and market‑rate options.

Looking ahead

Habitat for Humanity’s 35‑year presence in Sisters has included numerous home builds, volunteer events, and partnerships with local churches and businesses. The organization plans to continue its mission of fostering strong families and vibrant neighborhoods, aligning with the community’s values of faith, family, and individual liberty.
