Grubhub drivers and customers should be on the lookout for refund payments as part of a $23.8 million settlement, the Federal Trade Commission says. The settlement is for “drivers harmed by Grubhub’s deceptive earnings claims and diners harmed by the company’s misleading and unlawful conduct.” The FTC and the Illinois Attorney General alleged in 2024 that Grubhub deceived drivers about how much they’d make delivering food, blocked customers from their accounts and funds, and listed restaurants on its platform without permission.
Refund Details
The FTC is sending checks or PayPal payments to more than 640,000 impacted consumers. While it’s unclear how to check to see if you’re eligible for these payments, anyone who worked for or used Grubhub over the last few years should keep an eye on their mail or PayPal accounts. The average refund amount is $51. Most refund recipients will receive their payments in the mail and should cash them within 90 days of receipt. PayPal recipients should redeem their payments within 30 days.
