Duke, a former stray and coonhound mix, has finally found his forever home after spending nearly five years at the Humane Society of Ocean City in New Jersey. The shelter announced that Duke was recently adopted and is “absolutely flourishing” in his new home.
A Long Wait
Duke arrived at the Humane Society of Ocean City in the summer of 2021. Despite his lengthy stay, the shelter never gave up on finding him the right match. He became a familiar face, making several appearances and even being featured in People magazine.
NBC Philadelphia reporter Ted Greenberg introduced viewers to Duke during the 2024 Clear the Shelters campaign, when the dog was 8 years old. Bella Elias of the Humane Society of Ocean City described Duke as “such a loving, sweet soul.” Duke has settled into his new surroundings and has already made a canine friend.
