Greenville’s music scene has a new addition with Shades of Terra, a band headed by local songwriter and guitarist Brandon Allshouse. The term ‘post-rock’ might be unfamiliar, but it simply means rock music that focuses on atmosphere and emotion rather than catchy choruses or guitar solos.
Shades of Terra’s Sound
The band’s self-titled EP is entirely instrumental, featuring five songs that create their own unique moods. From the floating, atmospheric drift of ‘Oh, The Depths’ to the slow-build stadium-sized anthem ‘A Voice in the Void’, each song is an adventurous soundscape. Allshouse worked for over a decade to get the sound just right, and it shows in the layered waves of guitars that drive the music.
Drummer Gavin Glover provides the perfect accompaniment to Allshouse’s guitar work, and the result is a truly epic sound. The album is a cathartic process for Allshouse, who finds stress relief in playing guitar and creating music.
