Good Bones Fort Worth is a local business that creates custom glass art from the skulls of Texas Longhorns and other animals. Owner Craig McQuady, a veteran and electrical engineer, started the business after being inspired by a decorated skull given to him by his uncle.
Creating Artistic Skulls
McQuady’s artistic process involves gluing each piece of glass individually onto the skull, creating a mosaic pattern. Each skull takes around 8-12 hours to complete and can range in price from $399 to $5,000. The business also offers rope skulls and authentic buffalo and Longhorn skulls.
Good Bones Fort Worth exhibits at various festivals, including the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, and has a shop in Springtown. McQuady’s goal is to provide a price point for everyone who wants art, and the business is not trying to target a specific demographic.
McQuady served in the Army in Afghanistan and got into art after developing carpal tunnel and elbow issues. He now uses his business as an outlet for his creativity and has been trying to get into more artsy skulls, incorporating materials like crocodile skin and turquoise.
