Goleta, Calif. — The Goleta Valley Library announced that the deadline for its fifth annual Creek Week Art Contest has been extended to Saturday, September 5 at 2 p.m., allowing artists additional time to perfect their submissions.
The contest, themed “Story Beneath the Surface,” invites participants to create artwork that reflects the beauty and importance of creeks, oceans, and watersheds. Artists may use paint, colored pencils, photography, or any other medium they prefer.
Open to creators of all ages and skill levels, the competition is divided into adult, teen, and children’s categories. Judges will evaluate entries based on originality, visual appeal, and how well the piece connects to the theme.
Each participant may also submit a brief paragraph describing the inspiration or story behind their work. These descriptions will accompany the artworks during the public reception.
How to Submit
Artists can drop off completed pieces at the Goleta Community Center anytime before the new deadline. The center will display all accepted works from September 11 through September 30.
Reception and Awards
The Creek Week Art Reception is scheduled for Monday, September 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Goleta Community Center. The event will feature refreshments, live music, and the announcement of contest winners.
Winners in each age category will receive recognition and prizes, celebrating the community’s talent and commitment to environmental stewardship.
