French Market expands into former Pride Cleaners space in Prairie Village

Prairie Village’s French Market is set to grow its footprint by about 1,500 square feet, converting the former Pride Cleaners location that sits directly to the right of its current space. The expansion will give the popular French‑inspired eatery more room for its grab‑and‑go offerings, including pastries, specialty groceries, salads, sandwiches and prepared entrees such as three‑meat lasagna and chicken béchamel crêpes.

Family‑run business adds new checkout lanes

Co‑owner Noah Quillec explained that the additional space will allow the restaurant to install two separate checkout stations—one for dine‑in guests and another for retail customers. “People looking to just grab something to take home won’t have to wait behind those planning to stay,” Quillec said. The goal is to improve the overall customer experience without sacrificing the intimate vibe of the existing café.

Timeline and temporary closure

French Market will close for three days at the end of the month to finish construction, with a planned reopening on Aug. 27. The owners have been fielding requests for more space ever since Pride Cleaners moved across the Shops of Prairie Village, and they say the response from regulars has been overwhelmingly positive.

History of the Quillec family’s French eateries

The Quillec family first opened the upscale Café Provence at the Shops of Prairie Village in 2001. French Market followed in 2013 as a more casual sister concept. Both restaurants reflect the family’s French heritage; patriarch Patrick Quillec hails from Brittany, a region famed for its crêpes. “My grandma was a crêpe maker,” Noah recalled, adding that his father is a creative chef and his brother Philip now handles day‑to‑day operations.

Originally located on Tomahawk Road—where Rise Southern Biscuits now operates—French Market moved to its current address in 2019. After a few years the owners recognized the need for another upgrade, and the opportunity to expand into the adjacent former Pride Cleaners space presented itself.

Looking ahead

Despite the larger square footage, the Quillec family emphasizes that the restaurant’s identity will remain unchanged. “The ethos of French Market will remain the same,” Noah said. “We don’t want to lose our identity or our character by going too big. This is still our family working here every day.”
