As the nation prepares to celebrate the Fourth of July, many areas are bracing for scorching temperatures. A heat wave is expected to make its way across parts of the midwestern and eastern United States during the week before the Fourth of July weekend.
Record Highs
The Get the Facts Data Team built a tool to see what the record is and what the typical maximum temperature is for July 4. The tool includes 800 weather stations in the U.S. with at least 50 recent years of consecutive data. The year that the most records were recorded was in 2012. The hottest Fourth of July record documented was in Death Valley, California, at 127.9 degrees.
To stay cool during the heat wave, it’s essential to take precautions. This includes keeping your home cool by sealing any gaps in your windows and keeping them shut during the hottest part of the day. You can also use fans to circulate air and cool your body by wearing loose, lightweight clothing and drinking plenty of water.
