Fort Wayne Offers Free Bike Safety Workshops

The City of Fort Wayne is offering two free bicycle safety workshops this summer for elementary and middle school students as part of an effort to promote safe riding and encourage a stronger bicycling culture throughout the community.

Workshop Details

According to the City of Fort Wayne, the workshops will feature a 30-minute safety presentation led by the Fort Wayne Police Department Bike Patrol. Officers will teach students how to stay visible, aware and alert while riding, along with the “ABC Quick Check” safety inspection that covers tire pressure, brakes and chain condition before every ride.

The city said officers will also provide instruction on proper helmet fitting, seat adjustment, appropriate clothing and footwear, and basic bicycle laws. Students are encouraged to bring their own bicycles and helmets. The Indiana Department of Transportation will provide free bicycle helmets while supplies last. Following each workshop, participants will take part in a guided ride to practice the skills they learned.
