Fort Knox, Kentucky – The U.S. Army confirmed that Staff Sgt. Deonte Lamar Davis of Daytona Beach, Florida, was killed when engineering equipment fell on him in the motor pool on Tuesday. Sgt. Davis had been assigned to the 19th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, and served as a bridge crewmember at Fort Knox since 2024.
According to military officials, the accident occurred while Sgt. Davis was performing routine duties. He was quickly air‑lifted to a hospital in Louisville, where he later died from his injuries.

Sgt. Davis earned numerous awards during his service, including the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Staff Sgt. Davis,” said Col. Jeff Burges, commander of the 20th Engineer Brigade. “He was an outstanding Soldier and leader, and will be deeply missed by all his family, friends and fellow soldiers across the formation.”

The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division is conducting a standard investigation into the fatal accident. Fort Knox officials indicated that “initial indications are that the incident was accidental,” but the full findings will be released once the inquiry is complete.
