Fort Dodge firefighters rescue person pinned under tree on Exposition Drive

Fort Dodge, Iowa – On Wednesday afternoon, around 2:40 p.m., the Fort Dodge Fire Department received an emergency call reporting a person trapped beneath a fallen tree in the 700 block of Exposition Drive. Firefighters and EMS personnel arrived quickly to assess the situation.

Rescue operation

First responders found the individual pinned under a tree trunk that had been cut, leaving the victim unable to free themselves. The fire crews deployed a hydraulic spreader to separate the heavy log and used step cribbing to create a stable platform for the rescue.

Once the log was moved, the patient was carefully placed into a Stokes basket – a specialized rescue device designed for safe extraction in challenging terrain. An angle‑rope system was then employed to lift the basket and its occupant up the hill away from the fallen tree.

Medical care and outcome

After being lifted to safety, the rescued person was transported by ambulance to UnityPoint Trinity Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. The fire department has not released details about the victim’s condition, noting that it remains unknown at this time.

Community response

The swift and coordinated effort highlights the dedication of Fort Dodge’s emergency services to protecting residents. The department’s use of specialized rescue equipment underscores its preparedness for a range of incidents, from vehicle accidents to unexpected hazards like fallen trees.

Fort Dodge officials encourage citizens to report any dangerous conditions promptly, especially after severe weather or when trees show signs of instability. Early reporting can enable fire and EMS teams to intervene before injuries occur.
