WASHINGTON — Ford Motor Co. is issuing a recall for 565,691 Bronco and Bronco Raptor vehicles because an unshielded engine wiring harness could short circuit and catch fire.

The safety recall affects model-year 2021 through 2026 sport utility vehicles. Although the automaker estimates only 1% of the recalled vehicles contain the defect, chafing can strip wire insulation over time, leading to electrical arcing. Drivers experiencing a short circuit might observe smoke venting into the cabin or instrument panel alerts, followed by flames emerging on the passenger side of the engine bay.
Ford reported that it has received no accounts of crashes or injuries linked to the concern. Dealerships will add protective covers to the wiring harness free of charge. Vehicle owners can verify if their truck is included by entering their identification number at NHTSA.gov or contacting Ford customer care.
