A free workshop on heirs’ property will be held in Texarkana, Arkansas, to help landowners and families protect inherited property. The workshop, titled ‘Understanding Heirs’ Property at the Community Level: How to Protect Inherited Property and Grow Your Asset,’ will be hosted by Prairie View A&M University Extension.

Workshop Details

The workshop will take place on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Terry Lee Rogers Recreation Center, located at 1 Legion Drive in Texarkana, Arkansas. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Lunch and light refreshments will be provided for registered attendees.

The workshop will cover the basics of heirs’ property, explain why it can lead to land loss, and provide practical steps families can take to prevent or resolve ownership issues. Organizers said the goal is to help participants better understand the legal and financial challenges associated with heirs’ property while offering tools to safeguard family assets.

According to Angela Moore, program coordinator for the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at Prairie View A&M University, many families’ homes and land represent some of their most valuable assets. Without an estate plan or probate process, property can become heirs’ property after an owner’s death.

The workshop was scheduled after Prairie View A&M University Extension received requests from local residents seeking more information on the topic. Registration is available through Eventbrite or by contacting Moore at [email protected].
