A small western Kenyan village has a new sports field thanks to a fundraiser led by Benjamin School students Xander Klein and Jack Hansen. The students, with the help of Place of Hope, organized a ‘Hoops for Hope’ 3-on-3 tournament in March, raising over $100,000 for the project.
A Dream Realized
The Kijana Global Innovation School in the village now has a brand new sports field, which was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The field will not only serve the students but also the community, providing a space for soccer and other activities. Director of Kijana Global Innovation School, Ebby Shiroya, expressed gratitude to the students and the community in Palm Beach County who supported the fundraiser.
The sports field was a vision of Jack Hansen when he visited Kijana three years ago. Hansen, a member of the state championship Benjamin boys lacrosse team, was happy to introduce the sport to the students in Kijana, most of whom had never heard of it. The donation included soccer balls from Palm Beach Gardens Predators, lacrosse sticks from JTAA and Creators Game, volleyballs from Molten USA, and iPads from St. Clare Catholic school.
